LIGHTING
Q: What do these fixtures look like at the ceiling?
A: All Pourtensious fixtures include a ceiling canopy kit to attach to an electrical
junction box. The exposed components have a dark bronze finish, unless otherwise
noted. A wrought iron "S" hook in a matching dark bronze is provided to
hang the pouring vessel. For installation, hardwiring by an electrician is recommended.
Q: What's included in the dimensions provided in the descriptions?
A: The length (L) is from the ceiling to the bottom of the shade. Typically,
each fixture includes one hand wrought iron 'S'-hook to connect the ceiling canopy
ring to the pouring vessel handle. The width (W) represents the widest horizontal
dimension from pouring vessel to shade.
Q: Are fixtures adjustable for various ceiling heights?
A: Yes. Contact us if you have special requirements that need to be accommodated.
Fixtures can be lengthened with additional hooks. 'S'-hooks (2", 3", 4"
or 6") are available at additional cost. For very high ceiling heights, a length
of chain can be provided in lieu of a series of 'S'-hooks.
Fixtures can sometimes be marginally shortened by providing a smaller 'S'-hook.
Q: What type of bulbs do Pourtensious fixtures take?
A: Pendant lights are shipped with a 35 Watt halogen, medium-base floodlight
bulbs, unless otherwise noted. Fixtures easily handle up to 75 Watt medium-base bulbs.
Higher wattages have not been tested and are not recommended.
Chandeliers include 25 Watt frosted chandelier-base bulbs, unless otherwise noted.
Although not absolutely required, Pourtensious chandeliers should be installed on
an electrical dimmer circuit for optimal effect. They provide more up-lighting than
down-lighting. Each arm of the fixture can accommodate up to 40 Watt bulbs although
such high output will produce glare from the bare bulbs which may be unacceptable
in most installations. Additional room lighting is generally recommended to augment
these sculptural pieces. Some clients who use their Pourtensious chandeliers entirely
for mood lighting prefer the delicate silicon tipped bulbs (9 Watt) which appear
like wisps of steam from the teacups.
Additional bulbs can be purchased at customer request.
Q: Are fixtures UL Rated?
A: No. UL ratings are available for manufactured items which can be tested by
Underwriter's Laboratories. Because Pourtensious fixtures are one-of-a-kind, handmade
sculpture they cannot practically be UL tested. However, all electrical components
used in Pourtensious Lighting are UL rated.
Q: Are all vintage components of Pourtensious fixtures in excellent condition?
A: No. In order to create affordable fixtures and in keeping with the artist's
desire to enrich rather than diminish the value of these components once they are
incorporated into his work, some of the pieces may be dinged or chipped, rusted or
worn - adding the character of age.
Q: Can I get a Pourtensious fixture with colors to match my decor or with specified
elements?
A: Custom orders are certainly possible. Depending on our available stock and
order schedule, lead time will vary but contact us and
we can provide a cost and time estimate.
